Any thought that you continue to think is called a belief. And many of your beliefs serve you extremely well: thoughts that harmonize with the knowledge of your Source, and thoughts that match the desires that you hold... but some of your beliefs do not serve you well: Thoughts about your own inadequacy or your unworthiness are examples of those kinds of thoughts.
Now, with an understanding of the Laws of the Universe and some willingness to deliberately choose thoughts, you can, in time, replace all hindering beliefs with life-giving beliefs, but here is a process that can give you the immediate benefit of changing your beliefs in a much shorter time. We call this the process of Meditation.
We playfully tell our physical friends that the reason we teach the process of Meditation is because it is easier for most of you to clear your minds, having no thought, than it is for you to think pure, positive thoughts. For when you quiet your mind, you offer no thought; and when you do so, you offer no resistance; and when you have activated no resistant thought, the vibration of your Being is high and fast and pure.
Imagine a cork bobbing on a body of water. (That represents the place of high, pure, fast vibration that is actually natural to you.) Now, imagine holding the cork down under the water. (That is what resistance is like.) And now, imagine letting go of the cork—and see it rise back up to the surface of the water. Like the cork, naturally floating on the water’s surface, it is natural for you to experience the high, fast, pure vibration, free of the hindering resistance. And, like the cork, if you are not doing something that holds you down under the water, you will bob right back up to the surface where you belong. In other words, you do not have to work at being in the high vibration that is natural to you, because it is natural to you. But you do have to stop holding the thoughts that cause you to lower your vibration. It is a matter of no longer giving your attention to things that do not allow your cork to float or do not allow you to vibrate in harmony with who you really are. If you are not focused upon unwanted things that are the opposite of your own pure desire, you will activate no vibration of resistance—and you will experience your natural state of thriving and Well-Being. A decision is the focusing of the vibration of desire, and the decision point happens when the desire is powerful enough. The only discipline that we would like you to exercise is to make a decision that nothing is more important than that you feel good, and that you are going to find thoughts that feel better. Your cork floating is the only thing that is worthy of discipline. You could say that the process of Meditation is a shortcut to changing your beliefs, for in the absence of thought, there is no resistance within you; and your cork, so to speak, bobs naturally back up to the surface.
Now, to begin the process of Meditation, sit in a quiet space where you are not likely to be interrupted. Wear comfortable clothing. It does not matter if you sit in a chair or on the floor, or even lie on your bed
(unless you tend to fall asleep when doing so). The important thing is that your body be comfortable. Now, close your eyes, relax, and breathe. Slowly draw air into your lungs, and then enjoy the comfortable release of that air (your personal comfort here is very important). As your mind wanders, gently release any thought, or at least do not encourage it by pondering it further—and refocus upon your breathing. You are, by nature, one who wants to focus, so in the beginning, this process of Meditation will feel unnatural, and you will find your mind wanting to return to things you have been focusing on previously. When that happens, relax, breathe again, and try to release the thought. You will find it easier to quiet your mind if you will choose small thoughts that do not have the potential for expanding into something interesting: You could focus upon your own breathing. You could mentally count your breaths, in and out. You could listen to the dripping of a faucet... In choosing the soft, gentle thought, you will leave behind all thoughts of resistance—and your vibration (like the cork) will naturally rise. This is not a process where you work on your desires, but instead, this is one of quieting your mind. As you do so, any resistance will subside, and your state of vibration will rise to its natural, pure state. As you quiet your mind, you may feel a sense of physical detachment. For example, you may feel no real difference between your toe and your nose. Sometimes you will feel the sensation of twitches and itches eneath your skin. And often, once you have released resistance and are soaring in your natural pure, high vibrations—you will feel an involuntary movement in your body. It may sway slightly from side to side or forward and backward, or your head may roll gently from side to side. Or, you may simply feel the sensation of movement or of a yawn. But any or all of these sensations or movements are indicators of your achievement of a state of Meditation. Your point of attraction will now have changed, and your state of allowing will be in place. Things that you have been asking for— all of which have been given—are now flowing gently into your experience. And as you come out of your state of meditation, this state of
allowing will continue until you focus upon something that changes your vibrational frequency. But with enough practice, those higher frequencies will become so familiar to you that you will be able to reclaim them whenever you choose.
Over time, if you meditate regularly, you will become quite sensitive to the way the higher frequencies feel within your body. In other words, whenever you focus on anything that causes a dip in your vibration, you will now be more likely to recognize it at the early, subtle stages before the dip is too significant— and you will be able to easily change your resistant thought in order to maintain your balance.
The Process of Meditation
Meditation and faith
A questioner asked about meditation and faith. Abe spoke about how to have faith in Law of Attraction. Notice when something happens. To increase your faith do these three steps.
1. Think thoughts, note your thoughts
2. Note your feeling about the thoughts
3. Notice what happens.
These steps make it easier to remember the power of Law of Attraction.

Commitments
30.. If you are debating keeping or changing a commitment with another, you can always change it or make a new plan about it. It doesn't reallymatter if you stay or go. Just make a decision and line up with it.Whatever is going on, focus on the part of it that rings your bells.31.. So many people build their lives around commitments, but you cannotstand still. Stop the commitment stuff, you are assuring someone else thatyou will do something you can't do. Think more carefully about the thingsyou say you will do.
There is NOTHING that cannot be modified. Just focuson what you now want.Great question, below are some more of the quotes I've been pondering for myself as I again move forward to change my marital status, for the sixth time in my life! Single-Married- divorced- married-widowed- married-legally separated, WHEW! And that doesn't even begin to count the number of times I've been engaged, going steady, breaking up, or falling in love! Am I just a total failure at relationships and love? Or is it law of attraction making sure I keep up with my own growth and providing me with THE dynamically perfect partners interspersed with time alone to fine tune my vibration for each era of my life? I have to say the latter thought is the one that feels A LOT better to me today!I had a kinesthetic vision a couple of months ago that showed me just how good I could feel with a totally beloved FRIEND who is a thrilling part of my life. Release the heavy commitments, let go of territory, clutching on, trying to control conditions, just relax into this moment and love ALL my friends, including some special ones, seeing that I have MANY exquisite long term relationships and no ONE of them has to hold all my feelings/needs/ desires. It was the same day when, in meditation, I got shot through with a bright whit
e comet that exploded in my brain as joy and ran instantly down my body and out my feet. So the combination of the two of them definitely got my attention. And that week I wrote, "My feelings are a prophesy of what is going to happen to me." And then I learned the word "precognition" , the experience of knowing ahead of time what will happen. And these two, and the next I describe, are showing me where I am going as an individual. Looks really good to me!And then I had another vision of how good and free and healthy and strong I can feel in my body a couple of weeks later. Seems like my Inner Being is supporting my decision to find a way to feel good every day, to reach in each moment for thoughts that feel better, to get mad when that feels better but always to keep going until I am again living in love and appreciation no matter what is happening outside of me. That is the work, isn't it?! Just to handle the contrast of today the best I can, and trust that as I do my best to stay connected, I am flowing downstream to everything I want.Off to the pool to swim and feel how strong and free and flexible and healthy I AM!
17 Seconds
Abraham says that a thought reaches a combustion point at 17 seconds of pure undiluted focus. It draws another thought to it and it is exponentially more powerful. At the end of another 17 seconds, 34 seconds total, the next thought combusts, and by Law of Attraction, evolves to a higher level of energy. Again another 17 seconds to 51 seconds continues the process, and finally, if you can continue a pure thought for 68 seconds on any given subject, it will be on its way to manifestation. The key word is pure, meaning positive focus, strong energy, no resistance; to not slip into lackful thinking.
Abraham says the average person rarely finishes a single sentence without contradicting their energy, as in "I want a new car, but it is too expensive." So they say most of us haven't had much experience with ever feeling the combustion of thought that comes from 17+ seconds of pure thought.
In talking about the leverage of 17+17+17+17=68 seconds of pure thought, Abraham offers the following information:
17 seconds is worth 2,000 manhours (about a year at 40 hours per week of action taken)
34 seconds is worth 20,000 manhours (or about 10 years...)
51 seconds is worth 200,000 manhours (or about 100 years...)
68 seconds is worth 2,000,000 manhours (or about 1000 years...)
That's two MILLION manhours (or womanhours!) If we can learn to offer pure thought energy for 68 seconds at a time, action becomes INCONSEQUENTIAL!
How to Get to 17 Seconds of Pure Thought:Getting to 17 seconds of pure thought purely mentally is harder for me than doing it either out loud or in writing. I find the discipline of speaking or writing helps keep other thoughts from being too distracting.
Abraham: "Focus on nothing is more important than you feel good. Period.
We would recommend that you spend the first week writing 68 seconds about things that you don't care much about, such as blue glass, butterflies, feathers. Because you will attract those things. This exercise will teach you two things: one that you can focus for 68 seconds; two, that the universe does respond to a pure vibration. When you have a level of confidence in the universe, then you can tackle your main issues.
We would every day, twice a day, write your 68 seconds about all areas in your life, relationship, abundance, house, job, etc. You will find it very easy to do. For instance, on your house, appreciate how convenient it is. Appreciate the thermostat that keeps the house at the perfect temperature. Appreciate the sewage system and the plumbing in your bathroom. Appreciate the comfort of it. Know that this house will be temporary, that you will have may others closer to the dream house you want, but meanwhile appreciate it. You see, there was 68 seconds.
So, all of you have major work to do in the next 30 days. Write as many 68 seconds as you can. And do it deliberately."
Abraham: "Realize that 68 seconds isn't hard to find. Throughout your day, you have thousands of opportunities to do your 68 seconds. Even if your work schedule doubled, you could still find plenty of 68 seconds? Now, Esther didn't believe us at first that 68 seconds were the equivalent of 2 million man-hours. She couldn't conceive it. But since there isn't anything that we have said over the years that wasn't true, Esther now believes it and uses it.
So, we want to ask you, do YOU REALLY BELIEVE when we say that 68 seconds is the equivalent of 2 million man-hours? Because if you did, YOU WOULD FIND THE TIME TO DO THEM!!!
Who would want to bang things into place, when they know that they can spend 68 seconds and have the universe do it for them? Nobody, yet it is what the majority of you do. You would rather jump into action than do your 68 seconds. You would rather jump into action than align up your energy."
"The Recipe for deliberate creation has 10 parts:
5 parts of appreciating what is
2 parts of imagining a little better than what is
2 parts of looking for things that would make you feel better
1 part of quieting your mind, relaxing and not trying so hard, being at ease at it"
Meditation
IF YOU WANT MORE MONEY TO COME, you’ve got to find some way of getting off the subject of not enough money, and the easiest way we’ve ever seen to do that is to get in the mode of appreciating the money that is coming. Or, get off that subject and get on a subject that you are in the allowing mode about... So how do you know whether you’re in the allowing mode of what you’ve been asking for? It’s easy. The allowing mode feels like fun, feels like joy, feels like love, feels good. The resistant mode feels like tension, feels like hate, feels like anger, feels bad. You can tell whether you are in the allowing, or resistant, mode by the way you feel. Meditation is the ultimate allowing place, because there is no contradictive thought. Appreciation is a tremendous allowing space—in appreciation you are lined up with that which is your Source.
